Create your first Wardrobe Capsule

Hi ladies! I am so excited to help you create your first Wardrobe Capsule! I’m going to share 5 easy steps to design your personalized wardrobe for the Spring and Summer season. 

Remove from your closet all of the clothing from the past season

1. Remove from your closet all of the clothing from the past season. Since most of us have finished Fall and Winter, for which we are very grateful, we will store away these clothes in totes or hang them in another closet. This includes your accessories as well. Now you are ready to work with your Spring and Summer wardrobe.

Try on all the remaining pieces in your closet

2. Try on all the remaining pieces in your closet. Check each item for fit, style, the quality, and appearance. For example, Do you have tops that are pilled or faded from washing?

Find several totes and label them: Donate, Consign, Too big/ Too small, Fix Me, and  Trash. As you try on your clothes sort through them and eliminate all of the unwanted pieces. When you’ve finished this process you should have these items remaining; Tops, Bottoms, Dresses, and Outwear pieces.

3. Find 27 pieces to build your capsule! This is where the FUN begins. Hopefully, you will have 7 bottom pieces (pants, skirts, and jeans) 14 tops (patterns and solids) 3 dresses and 3 outwear pieces. Ladies, keep in mind that these clothes are pieces that you will wear for the majority of your day.

This means that I wear colors that are medium in intensity. I have chosen brown as my best neutral or khaki, yellow and teal as my pop colors. 5. Choose one purse and several other accessories to complete your wardrobe. The best purse color is to match it to your hair color. You’ll always look complete from head to foot!

Accessories…Tips for dressing up your style

How to use accessories is a question I often get asked when I’m working with a client so I thought I should answer it. There are lots of different types of accessories available which can be very frustrating for some people and a lot of fun for others, but really all comes down to your style personality. Here are few things to keep in mind.

Personality Types

  • The basic items plus accessories!

    Classic Modern- She loves to have lots of basics in her closet so that it’s easy to get dressed. She likes to add a few trends to her wardrobe, but most of the time she keeps her style simple.

  • Creative Original- She loves to add texture, layers, and pattern to her style. She likes to mix in antique jewelry or other period styles in her basic wardrobe.
  • Pure Natural- She keeps it simple and natural. She likes a soft and relaxed look. She loves to wear fabrics such as cotton or linen. She likes the outdoors so comfort is a must. Her jewelry is simple and traditional.
  • Style Fashionista- She loves to wear the latest trends. She likes to add statement jewelry to her outfits. She loves to add bold colors or an edginess to her style.

Once you discover your style personality it’s easy to learn how to add in the elements that complement your taste.

Types of Accessories

  • Hair and Makeup
  • Purses, Jewelry, and Scarves
  • Shoes
  • Glasses

The key to wearing any of these items is learning how to balance the size, color, and style with your height and appearance. You want to keep trends in mind to create an updated look to your wardrobe. Don’t go overboard with all the trends! It’s always better to add one or two statement pieces that you’ll love and use through out the season.

Creating a Unique Style of Beauty from the Inside Out

Do you ever find yourself struggling with your reflection in the mirror? Is the person in the mirror all you would like her to be? Do you ever wish that overnight she could be transformed into the person you’ve always dreamed about? How would life be different after the change?

I want to share some of my personal journey with you. I’d like to be transparent and honest with you for a few minutes. Often, I have found myself staring in a mirror and reflecting on who I am. I find myself struggling with the image staring back at me. I desperately want to change what I see, but a little voice in my heart and mind says, “why”? Sometimes the answer is because I’m not good enough, I’m not tall enough, I can’t speak or write well enough, I’m to fat, I don’t know enough, and I don’t love and appreciate myself. Have you ever felt this way? Have you ever been overwhelmed by emotion and fear? Have you ever been so lost inside yourself that you felt like you’d never find a way out?

Well, I have and it’s a very lonely and dark place, but I have found hope through my personal relationship with Jesus. Several years ago I made some major changes in my life. The first was quitting my full time job so that I could be more available to my daughters. Then came the loss of some close family members, starting my business, my husband loosing his job, and our daughter, Andrea, graduating from high school and starting college. My husband getting rehired by his former employer which is wonderful and my part time job with Kohl’s as a beauty adviser. This year my daughter Jenna has completed middle school and will begin high school in the fall. 

As you can imagine, I have changed physically during all of this and I’ve developed some health issues as well! But, again, God has been faithful to walk with us through every step. The latest crisis was surgery this spring to remove some kidney stones. This grabbed my attention and I knew it was time to make some BIG changes in taking care of myself! I took these steps:

  • I began exercising 3-5 days every week.
  • I started drinking up to 70 ounces of water every day.
  • I am working on sleeping 6-7 hours every night (I haven’t mastered this yet!)
  • I am working on developing better eating habits and focusing on a goal to loose 40 lbs by December. I’ve reached the 25 lb mark!! 

The most important and pivotal change has been my walk with God. This area of my life has blossomed and grown in countless ways. I have literally experienced healing and restoration from the inside out. 

The results have been so encouraging that I’d like to share a before and after picture with you. I’m sharing this not to brag, but to give God all the glory for his work in my life and to encourage you.
